The short version
- You are in charge of your car. Road signs, the police and the law come before anything Bound says.
- Bound is free and has no account. Supporting it is a one-time purchase, never a subscription.
- What you add to the map should be true and your own. We may publish it as open data, free for anyone in Malaysia to use.
- Directions, tolls and traffic can be wrong. Bound is not responsible for where a route takes you.
Who these terms are with
Bound is made and run by Ng Qi Heng, Malaysia ("we"). By using the Bound app or this website, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Bound. Our privacy policy explains what data Bound handles.
If you downloaded Bound from the App Store or Google Play, Apple's or Google's own terms for apps also apply. Where they conflict with these terms, theirs win.
Driving with Bound
- Follow road signs, traffic lights, road markings, the police and the law, even when Bound says something different.
- Don't hold or type on your phone while you drive. Choose your destination before you set off, mount the phone where you can glance at it, and let a passenger handle anything else.
- Bound's directions, lanes, toll lanes, toll fares, traffic, arrival times and hazard warnings come from maps, providers and other drivers. They can be wrong, late or out of date. Use your own judgement.
- Report something only when it's safe to, or ask a passenger to.
What Bound gives you
Bound is free to use and needs no account. We may change, add or remove features as Bound grows. It can be unavailable at times, for example with no signal, in a tunnel, or when a service we rely on is down.
Supporting Bound
- Supporting Bound is a one-time purchase in the app, made through the App Store or Google Play. It is not a subscription, and nothing renews.
- Any amount unlocks the supporter features shown in the app, such as the trip and toll diary, more vehicles and paint colours, for as long as you use the same store account.
- Apple or Google take the payment and handle refunds under their own rules. We never see your card.
- Support pays for Bound's running costs. It doesn't buy a say in how Bound is run, and it doesn't put your name anywhere unless you ask us to list it on our supporters page.
- If we ever retire a supporter feature, we'll say so in the app first.
What you add to the map
You can add missing places, report closed shops, share toll fares, map toll lanes and flag road hazards. When you do:
- Only add what you believe is true, from your own knowledge or experience.
- Don't copy from Google Maps or any other map or listing whose terms don't allow it. Copied data can't be shared openly.
- Don't add anything about private people, such as someone's home, and nothing offensive, misleading or unlawful.
Your contributions are shared openly. You give us a free, worldwide and permanent permission to use, check, change, combine and publish what you add, including as open data under an open licence such as the Open Database Licence (ODbL), so that anyone, in Malaysia or elsewhere, may use it. Once something is published openly it can't be called back.
If you turn on "Also add it to OpenStreetMap", Bound uploads that place to OpenStreetMap from Bound's own account, where it is published under the ODbL. Nothing about you goes with it.
We check what drivers add, and we may decline, change or remove anything, for example if it looks wrong, copied or abusive.
Using Bound fairly
Please don't:
- send automated requests to Bound, or copy its data in bulk;
- try to get around its limits, or take apart the app to misuse its services;
- send false reports, or overload or disrupt the service.
If a phone does, we may limit or block its requests. Because Bound has no accounts, that applies to the phone's install code, not to you as a person.
Who owns what
The Bound name, logo, app and website belong to Ng Qi Heng. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors, TomTom and MapTiler, who are credited in the app; their own terms apply to their data. What you add stays yours, under the permission above.
If something goes wrong
Bound is provided as it is. As far as Malaysian law allows, we are not responsible for loss that comes from using Bound, including a wrong turn, a delay, a missed appointment, a toll charge or a traffic fine. Where we are responsible, our total responsibility is limited to what you paid to support Bound in the 12 months before the problem.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under Malaysian law that can't be taken away, including under the Consumer Protection Act 1999.
Stopping
You can stop using Bound at any time by deleting the app. We may stop offering Bound, or part of it. If we do, we'll tell you in the app first where we can.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and say so in the app when the change matters. If you keep using Bound after that, the new terms apply.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and the courts of Malaysia decide any dispute.
